Terms of Service
Effective 2026-10-15
These terms are the agreement between you and Certo Partners (the "Service Provider"), which develops and runs Johdoh (the "Application"). By creating an account you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not create an account or use the Application.
The Privacy Policy explains what the Application collects and what it cannot see, and the Child Safety Standards set out how the Service Provider deals with child sexual abuse and exploitation. Both are part of how Johdoh works, and these terms are written to match them.
Who can use Johdoh
Johdoh is for adults: you must be 18 or older. The Application asks for your month and year of birth and refuses anyone under 18. Where Apple or Google offer it, it also asks them for the age range they hold for you, and refuses anyone they place under 18. Both answers stay on your phone, so the Service Provider relies on them being true. If you give a false age, or are under 18, your account will be ended.
You must also be legally able to agree to these terms where you live, and not be barred from using the Application by law.
Your account
An account is a username you choose and a cryptographic key kept on your phone. There is no email address, phone number or password. Signing in means your phone proving it holds the key.
The Application keeps one copy of your key with your Apple or Google account, end-to-end encrypted, so that you can bring your account to a new phone. If you lose your phone and that copy is not available, for example because iCloud Keychain was turned off or your Android phone had no screen lock, your account is lost. The Service Provider has no email address or phone number to reach you through and cannot reset, recover or re-issue an account.
You are responsible for what happens through your account, and for keeping your phone and your Apple or Google account secure. Do not sell, transfer or share your account.
What you must not do
Using Johdoh, you must not:
- Harass anyone. No threats, bullying, intimidation, or unwanted sexual approaches, and no continuing to contact someone who has made clear they do not want it.
- Post hate. No content that attacks or demeans people for their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or age.
- Post or seek sexual content involving minors, or contact anyone under 18 for a sexual purpose. The Service Provider has zero tolerance for this: see the Child Safety Standards.
- Post or do anything illegal, or use Johdoh to arrange something illegal.
- Stalk anyone. Do not use discovery, Echoes, Flares, Anchors or any other location feature to work out where a particular person is, to follow them, or to turn up where they have not invited you. Do not post information that could lead someone to a particular person, such as a room number, an address or a phone number.
- Impersonate anyone, or mislead people about who you are in a way meant to deceive or harm them.
- Spam. No unsolicited advertising, selling, chain messages, or repetitive or automated messages.
- Interfere with Johdoh. Do not create accounts in bulk or by automated means, scrape the Application, try to get at other people's data, or attack, overload or disrupt the service.
Your content
Your content is what you put into Johdoh: Echoes and Flares, chat messages, broadcasts to your connections, gifts such as voice clips, notes and sketches, your username, and anything you write in a report. You keep all rights to it.
You give the Service Provider a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy and transmit your content only as far as needed to run Johdoh and deliver it to the people you send it to. For content the Application seals on your phone — chat, broadcasts, gifts and Echoes — that means storing and passing on encrypted data the Service Provider cannot read. Your username is shown to other members of the communities you join. The licence ends when the content is deleted, as the Privacy Policy describes.
You are responsible for your content, and you confirm you have the right to share it. An Echo is readable by everyone in its community who holds the community's invite, so treat it as said to the whole community.
Communities
Johdoh is used through communities: an event, an organisation or a venue, each run by its organiser with its own administrators. Choosing "Continue with Johdoh" when you sign up puts you in the community the Service Provider runs itself. A community's administrators decide how it works within what the Application allows — for example which features are on and how far discovery reaches — and moderate it. An organiser may have its own rules for its community, in addition to these terms.
Reporting, blocking and moderation
Block. Blocking someone stops you finding each other, stops their waves, and ends any conversation between you. They are not told.
Report a person. From a conversation, Report sends a reason and anything you choose to write to that community's administrators, and the Service Provider can read it too. Reporting someone also blocks them. Only what you write is sent: nothing else from your conversation goes with the report.
Report an Echo or Flare. This sends a reason only: administrators see how many members reported it and why, not who. Once enough established members have reported one, it is hidden from everyone. Administrators can then review it, hide or restore it, and suspend its author from posting Echoes and Flares, without learning who the author is.
Suspension and removal. A community's administrators can suspend a member from their community, for a period or indefinitely, and a member blocked by enough different people in a community is suspended from it automatically. The Service Provider can do the same in any community, and may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms.
What moderation can and cannot see. Chat, broadcasts and gifts are end-to-end encrypted, and the Service Provider cannot read them, so neither it nor any administrator reviews or scans them. Echoes are sealed with a key held by the community's administrators and members, not by the Service Provider's servers; the Service Provider can read a community's Echoes only if it holds that key, as a member does. Your interests never reach the Service Provider in readable form, and a match shows the other person only the interests you share. What moderators work from is what is reported to them, usernames, and the record of who blocked or reported whom. The Service Provider does not undertake to monitor Johdoh and is not responsible for what other people post, but it acts on what it learns through reports and other lawful means.
Premium
Some features may be offered as a Premium subscription in the community the Service Provider runs. It is sold only through the App Store or Google Play: Apple or Google bill you, renew the subscription until you cancel it, and handle cancellations and refunds under their own terms. Manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account. The Application is built so the Service Provider cannot tell which account a purchase paid for and never receives your payment details, so it cannot issue refunds itself.
Premium may not yet be on sale, and what it includes may change. Communities run by other organisers do not offer Premium.
Ending your use
You can stop using Johdoh at any time. Settings → Account → Delete account in the Application deletes your account, as the Privacy Policy describes. Uninstalling the Application stops it too but leaves your account record on the server; to have that erased, contact [email protected].
The Service Provider may suspend or end your access to Johdoh if you break these terms, if your use puts others at risk, or if it is required to by law. It may also change, suspend or stop the Application or any feature of it.
Meeting people
Johdoh introduces you to people nearby who share your interests. The Service Provider does not know who they are and does not check anyone's identity, age or background. Take care when meeting someone in person: meet somewhere public, tell someone you trust where you are going, and leave if you feel unsafe.
Disclaimers
The Application is provided "as is" and "as available". The Service Provider works to keep it running and secure, but does not promise that it will always be available, free of errors, or that it will find you a match. Matching, discovery and location depend on your phone, your settings and other people, and location is approximate by design.
Your data on your phone is yours to keep safe: because the Service Provider holds no copy of your conversations, connections or interests, it cannot restore them if they are lost. Use the backup the Application offers.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, the Service Provider is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for loss of data, or for what other users say or do, on or off the Application.
To the same extent, the Service Provider's total liability to you for all claims arising from these terms or the Application is limited to the greater of US$100 and the amount you paid for Premium in the 12 months before the claim arose.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud, and nothing in them takes away rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated as the Application changes. The effective date above will change, and material changes will be surfaced in the Application. If you keep using Johdoh after a change takes effect, the new terms apply; if you do not agree with them, stop using it.
Governing law
These terms, and any dispute arising from them or from the Application, are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you and the Service Provider consent to their jurisdiction.
This does not take away the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the place where you live, or a right that law gives you to bring a claim in your local courts.
